tv stand

tv stand2

a while ago i posted a dresser that was kinda retro….but with shabby chic touches. i called it the “shabbytro” dresser. well…this is a shabbytro entertainment center/tv stand/buffet piece. little tapered legs and straight clean lines say retro….but then the distressing and the scrollwork say shabby chic. best of both worlds. we have drilled several holes in the back if you’d like to use this as a tv stand….tv on top with components inside. could also be a buffet piece – TONS of storage area. i have her in my entryway cause i am now in love with a big ole long piece in my front entrance!

long black

long black drawers

long black

seems like i have done a lot of the long dressers in cream….so i decided to do this one in black. there are three large drawers on each side and three drawers behind the cabinet door. this would be a great buffet or flat screen tv stand if you’re looking for those things! good thing i know how to rethunk stuff….
so i mentioned in an earlier post that my husband purchased a truck, right? well…when he buys a truck…he buys a TRUCK! i am now the proud owner of a ford f350 xlt pickup truck. and since i would never have known what that was till last friday, let me just tell you that it’s one big honkin’ truck! tom was proudly explaining that it had the runner-step-on-so-you-can-get-in-things on the side and i thought….”what a nice addition!” NOPE! those puppies are essential! i already look a bit silly hauling my rear end up into the seat – were it not for the runner-step-on-so-you-can-get-in-things there’s no way i would be able to do anything but wave to others as they drove off in my truck. so anyhoo…i took my first furniture foray in the truck on monday. found a fabulous dresser and had it loaded up. i’m feelin all cool and happy in my truck and decide i need some fuel before heading home. i turn the corner and head into the QT. few minutes later i am approached by a stranger who has a dresser drawer in about 3 pieces. i think to myself…”how does he know i fix things like that?? why did he know to bring it to QT? is he a stalker in disguise? i can never jump in my truck fast enough to get away!” and when he get’s to me he explains that as i went around the corner, this came flying out of my truck. now THERE’S a problem i never had in the van! i apologize profusely and he kindly suggests that i take all the drawers out till i get home. well dang it – that requires CLIMBING into the back of the truck. something i would rather try in private for the first time. hee hee with a little help i got things all safely tucked away and did indeed make it home with this fabulous dresser. i have decided i have some issues normal people just don’t have – wouldn’t you agree?

i have wanted to do this pretty much since i started Rethunk Junk. and it was every bit as enjoyable as i thought it would be! it took a while to gather all the buttons… and even longer to find a dresser that i thought worked for this project… and then even LONGER to sort thru all the buttons and just find the white/cream/pearl ones. i saw a version of this in an extremely classy boutique here in atlanta for over $700.00 so it was fun to try and recreate it! i think this would be beautiful in a bedroom, in a bathroom, or really lovely in any room decorated all in whites…even a formal living room. come see it in person – it’s a beautiful piece!

cool buffet1

cool buffet 2

cool buffet 3

this was sooooo much fun – cause it turned out sooooo cool. (er…well…at least I think so!) i dragged my husband along during one of my recent “junk hunts”. i had mapped out about 12 places i wanted to check – which he estimated would take about three days (he was a bit cranky). well…he must have said a heck of a prayer…cause we found this at the second stop on the trip….which, as i’m sure you can imagine, completely filled the van! i was so thrilled that i completely ignored his glee at being able to go home so soon. i swear i’m gonna start taking before and after photos! i get so excited to start a piece that i have all the yucky hardware off, sanding done and am starting to prime before i ever remember! needless to say, this looked a wee bit different before rethunking took place! now it’s a gorgeous nine drawer dresser? buffet? tv stand? (you decide). cream and distressed, with way cool carving on six of the drawers. and i love the hardware. kinda echos the carving on the drawers. this piece is really well made – all the drawers open fabulously smoothly and it’s incredibly clean.
this one of a kind piece available for $180

STUNNING Sideboard piece!!

this one was a TON of work – but a lot of fun too! as you can see, i took photos of this one outside. that would be because i work in my garage (i’m wondering how the family is going to feel about that this winter…as we head to the driveway to load up for school vs. the toasty warm garage…) and this piece weighs right around 6,500 pounds. so my spouse put it on wheels so i could roll that puppy outside and take pictures. now, of course, i want everything i own to be on wheels so i can roll it around, rearrange it, change it up, all with my pinky finger!!!
it’s a solid well built piece of furniture – drawers are dove tailed and there’s lots of beautiful molding. 3 drawers on each side and the cabinets open to reveal two drawers that pull out and a shelf with a little wicker basket on it. it’s a cream color with black hardware and is beautifully distressed. side looks like beadboard – really cute! looks like pieces in the ballard design catalogue or in the pottery barn catalogue for thousands of dollars – really!

Beautiful piece! Don’t cha think? this piece has lots and lots of storage. it’s way heavy. the drawers are lined with the original felt and all three work really really well! cabinets underneath open for more storage and there is a shelf halfway down for even more organization. painted an off white and accented with black hardware. (i realize some of you are thinking, “DUH!” but sometimes the pictures make the paint look lighter or darker than it really is. anywho…it’s awesome – i have it in my family room – would work in a dining room or even a front entry way.
