well….i did it….i took the plunge…i jumped in…i decided to go for it….i bit the bullet (some of these phrases are just dumb, huh?) i convinced myself it would all be okay…i rented a wee booth in a wee shopping center to take some of my furniture and accesssories. very nerve wracking! i was talking with the owner – who is incredible…and she asked why i was so hesitant….”what do you have to lose?” well, DUH! only every shred of self esteem i ever thought about having! as all the other booths sell out till they are empty and mine stays packed full… it’s a bit stressful! and yet….it was pretty fun too! i’m excited! so go check it out! what a wonderful thing to do over the long weekend! and it’s super close to hiram so you can head there for lunch and more shopping! i am including photos so you can “window shop” and decide what you want. =D

gray

what do you think? i love the creamy gray color of this piece. and it looks fabulous with black or cream or even white (see clawfoot….white piece with gray top) good thing the color is pretty awesome since i had the night from down under (yes…australia!) when i went to purchase it. i go to home depot….my second home…(little shout out for home depot here…they are insanely patient and helpful and kind!!!! some of my requests have been downright nutty and they always wait till i leave to laugh and talk about me – ha!) so i go in with my little paint scrap to match…and while they are mixin’ for me i get the other things i need. i check out…chatting happily with the cashier…and take my purchases to the van. yes…that’s right…the van. my man decided that the truck needed a little rest – based – i’m sure – on what it costs to fill that tank…so he requested that i take the van. no problem. i am nothing if not flexible (and chubby). so i get back to the van with my purchases and realize that probably due to my chattiness (is that even a word?) the cashier has not given me one of my bags. so…feeling rather exhausted, i decide not to carry my 7,000 pound purse all the way back in with me. i grab my keys…lock the van…and head inside home depot. about three steps into this little trip back in i realize…i have taken the TRUCK keys out of my purse. i have just locked myself out of my van. and i have done a fabulous job of it….because i am carrying the keys to our other vehicle with me…and my cell phone is locked safely in my purse. so i trudge back in to my second home. course it’s night time…7pm to be exact…which means my truly favorite helpful paint guys are not working. so i go to the customer service desk and explain my dilemma and they let me use the phone to call tom. who was not excited by the news. he gets on the phone with the roadside service people and FIFTY SEVEN minutes later he finally talks to someone who says they will get right out to help me. long story short…..home depot closes at 10:00pm and i am still there. sitting in the parking lot. being snacked on by mosquitos. when the dude finally does come he opens the van and then says “give me your keys….and your wallet.” i start freaking out – dark parking lot – my best defense is to wave my arms and hope the “when=was=the=last=time=you=showered???” odor wafts over and knocks him out – and then he starts laughing. “just kidding…i love doing that” i almost throw up, get in the van and drive home. SOOOOOOO….. someone besides me better like this color!!!!
fabulous dresser and mirror – mirror detaches for traveling…so if you ever want to take the dresser on vacation with you it will be very convenient. ha!

desk

this is the cutest little desk. and i must admit…i have done nothing to him but clean him up a bit. i had the eye and the talent and the “connections” (haha) to find him….but i just can’t paint him. i love how rustic he is. obviously, with a wee chair, he would be a fabulous desk for a child…all the drawers work perfectly…but i also like him as a little accent table like this. fun conversation piece….a bit of storage and open so it doesn’t look like it takes up a lot of space. fabulous little art desk for someone you love….how about in the corner of the kitchen so while you work, someone could draw/color or play with playdough etc.

WHITE WHITE WHITE WHITE WHITE

as you may or may not have guessed from the title of this post, i am offering a white dresser! this one is darling! nine drawers – there are three on each side and three beind the cabinet doors…fabulously well built….and speaking of well built….i was out with a friend today (who happens to be so talented it’s nauseating)…and she said something hilarious that reminded me of a goal tom and i set about 5 years after having children. at that point we would have had a 5 year old (duh) and a three year old and a 1 year old. we ocassionally….just OCASSIONALLY…fall a wee bit behind in the “cleaning spic and span” department and have on a rare ocassion gone to bed without wiping down the kitchen table after breakfast early that morning. (man i hope my mother is not reading this! she SO taught me better!) anyhoo….upon getting up the next morning there was sometimes-if i recall correctly- since this hardly EVER happened! – oatmeal and/or cocoa pebbles on the table. having come to my senses and realizing that i want to eat a meal on this table again, i find that it is now time to wipe it down. um….no. that’s right….um….no. just…..no! who else here has tried to wipe oatmeal or cocoa pebbles off of any surface after it has accidentally lain there overnight. (please tell me i’m not the only one!) on the off chance that i happen to be in the minority on this….let me tell you. YOU CANNOT REMOVE THAT STUFF THE NEXT DAY! i have never!! tom and i decided that at the very LEAST we would build a bomb shelter out of oatmeal and cocoa pebbles. we would feel perfectly safe! NOTHING would be breaking thru that baby! our REAL dream is to build an entire home. we envision bricks made of cocoa pebbles and oatmeal “mortar”. having the artistic eye that i do, i see that being a lovely color combination…the browns and tans…and for a pop of color i am thinking a “fruity pebbles” door and possibly shutters. and we’d save money on an alarm system – none needed – nobody’s getting thru our “cocoa-meal” (get it? cocoa pebbles and oat meal??) house unless we LET them in. now, i can’t in good conscious tell you that this dresser is as well built as our “cocoa-meal” house would be…but it IS solid wood, does have a bit smoother surface, and no one should be tempted to lick it…which i fear is the down side to our “cocoa-meal” house plan. so take home this awesome piece today!

so i walk in the house last week and am met at the door by my son….who says to me…. “mom, emma painted the wall while you were gone!” (and since we are enduring a stage where those two are like oil and water…i could have sworn he seemed a little amused and excited) well i was neither of those things…amused OR excited! so i walk in and say to emma….”emma claire? show me where you painted!” little voice….”i didn’t” look of death from me so then i get in a softer voice…”um, i didn’t” matt interjecting “yes she did – yes she did mom! she did!!” emma looking beaten yet defiant looks at matt then at me and says “no, matt, i didn’t. i didn’t PAINT the wall…i BLUSHED it!” so here is the part where i swear it took everything i had not to bust out laughing!!! it was innapropriate, it was wrong, it was against the rules, it was a mess, heck – it was MY blush…but she was right. she had not painted a wall…she had BLUSHED it! it is now a lovely shade of “blushing berry” by clinique…so guess who now gets to paint a wall???? see how painting can cause stress if you aren’t careful?????
well – i was more than a little stressed when tom brought this home to me. once again – i could kick myself for not taking before photos…but here is a description:
glass was broken out of the doors
most pulls were missing
the remaining pulls were round purple knobs
someone had given up halfway thru a very bad paint job
i could go on….but why focus on the negative, right???
let’s focus on the positives now….
gorgeous creamy color with beautiful distressing
solid wood piece
glass replaced and perfect
stunning red and cream fabric on back
lovely antique hardware in oil rubbed bronze
even a cute little black tassle!
i am thrilled that my man knows a good thing when he sees it (hence the reason he chose ME of course) and thrilled that this piece is now DEFINITELY a good thing i can offer you! not a bit of blush anywhere on it! ha ha

scared to death!

cradle

cradle 2

the fear factor here is two-fold….
first of all….i drug this in the house and my husband walked around the corner, turned white as a sheet and said, “PLEASE TELL ME that’s for your business and you’re not trying to make an annoucement!” after informing him that i would be rendered totally incapacitated by news of that sort at this point (age) in my life, thus not able to physically drag the cradle into our home….he relaxed a little.
second set of scared people involves a little story….how many of you just groaned and clicked off your computers?????

so when my oldest child was wee…close to two years old…we moved from lexington, ky to louisville, ky. not a huge move, unless you factor in that at THAT point in my life, i WAS with child. =D i was exhausted by the move….completely!! i must also explain here that lindsey, the first bundle of joy in my life, was two, she WAS a cat! i’m serious! she crawled around all day. communicated mostly in “meow’s”….purred when she was happy. in fact i explained to the lovely ladies in the nursery at church that she would probably not acknowledge them unless they called “here kitty, kitty!”. after rolling their eyes, they informed me later that day that they couldn’t get her to come for lesson time or snack time untill they called, “here kitty kitty!” and then she crawled over. i resisted the urge to say told you so….and instead apologized for this little intense phase my child was going thru. so…back to the move….
i am pregnant, exhausted, and the mother of a very insistent cat. my man leaves for work and i totally forget that there are a couple of women from church stopping by at noon to welcome me to the area. i hear a knock at the door and completely panic. i head to the door and open it, and here is what the women saw…
it’s noon, and i have done NO personal grooming, and am answering the door in my pajamas – which happen to be dirty since hooking up the washing machine is still way down on the priority list….my hair is a mess…my home is a wreck…boxes everywhere – 1/2 unpacked…and then since the front door offers a view straight into the kitchen…i hear a gasp…and then look behind me and see what THEY see…my two year old- also dressed in dirty pajamas, hair askew… “leashed” to the kitchen table leg lapping milk out of a bowl on the floor.
how in the WORLD do you explain this one????? my explanation sounded very lame/fishy/loony. “uh…hi there! so nice to meet you! i slept in a little since i have been tired….i’m expecting you know…..(keep in mind that i only look like i’ve had one too many snickers bars at this point – not truly pregnant). i guess you can see i have a two year old. she ASKED me to tie her up…i mean she WANTED me to tie her to the table…i mean it’s a GAME for her when i leash her to things….she’s a cat so she likes it!” at this point i figure it’s better to just shut up and see what happens!
dead silence. great. at least we’re only half unpacked so when i tell my husband we have to move we’ll have a head start.
i’m expecting them to whip out cell phones and call social services….when one of them smiles at me….says she used to have a kitty herself…and they offer to help me unpack. i break down in tears…thank them profusely…and we head inside to make sure my little kitty is tied up tight enough – haha!
SO….i am offering this darling cradle to anyone out there who might be expecting a little kitty soon! it’s a charming piece…and i think it would be beautiful monogrammed!

art table

closer

with katei

i am dreaming that this table would solve a ton of issues in my home. i am dreaming that….
#1 – my child would draw.color and create quietly for hours on end while i work
#2 – my child would instantly lose all attraction to writing on walls/doors/cabinets and furniture
#3 – my child would play nicely with others and share without fail
#4 – my child would develop artistic abilities that would help her zoom ahead of others in life
(someone once told me that if your child draws a NECK on people when he/she is drawing it’s a sign of immense intelligence and high IQ. despite the fact that i have coached each one of my children for hours on end….NONE of them have drawn necks! probly cause they can’t really SEE my neck since it happens to be covered in CHINS! ha!)
anywho….in the hopes that these dreams might come true in YOUR life….i am posting this adorable little art table. you should have SEEN it when i found it! the ‘L’ shaped tins actually came stuffed to the gills (hilarious phrase, huh?) with artificialy plants. FU-NNY! the table is 34 x 34 and 15 tall….it comes with the cups full of:
scissors, glue, markers, crayons, colored pencils, regular pencils – what fun!!!! and cute enough to use in your family room – or keeping room – or corner of the kitchen….lots of fun options!
also available in black (that makes me sound like a real store, huh???) i seriously DO have one in black
price: $123
NOTE: the 12 year old wandered in on her own and started drawing! it was cool to watch and says a lot about how fabulous this table is!
