glass side tables

glass side tables2

so i found these about 6 months ago….and LOVED them….then i started second guessing myself and thought possibly i was the only person on the planet who would indeed love them. well….i decided i’m probably not the only one who sees something cool. how do i know???? you ask??? well…..let me tell you!!!
i had these carefully tucked away in a safe corner of my garage….(those of you who have been here and seen my garage just fell out of your chairs laughing at how ridiculous that is….and for those of you who have NOT….let’s just say i am AMAZED that no one has called social services to have my children removed from my home! but that’s my story and i’m stickin’ to it….so….) i had these carefully tucked away in a safe corner of my garage and was “antique-ing” one weekend. was in a very high end store – no paint anywhere on me and the people still weren’t paying much attention to me – ha! well all of the sudden i went around a corner and squealed! (no “may we help you ma’am?” or “are you okay?” in fact from the looks i got i think squealed is the right word since they seemed to be thinking “pig!”) but anyhoo….i saw a table EXACTLY like mine. well…okay not exactly…it was triangular – but that was the only difference. okay – not the ONLY difference…mine had not yet been rethunk…so it was a bit scarier than theirs – but that truly was the only difference. geometry and cosmetics. so of course i decided to look at the price. at which point i did my little piggie squeal again! theirs was priced at – are you sitting???? – $795!! let me just spell that for you….SEVEN HUNDRED AND NINETY FIVE DOLLARS! soooooo…. i decided that my taste is incredible….i should never second guess myself….and these puppies should single handedly help us retire in style. ha! i figure i could sell them for buy-one-get-one-free – you only pay $795 but you get TWO! ha! actually…i am selling them for $75 each – BARGAIN, HUH????? that’s a savings of ONE THOUSAND FOUR HUNDRED AND FOURTY DOLLARS! so come take them home! quick!

table

table closer

table far

this has really cool carved detail along the front. and this also has a ginormous amount of room inside it. but what is really exciting – if you’re using it as a bedside table – is the amazing amount of surface area. i put it on my side of the bed to take the photo and tom’s eyes pretty much bugged out of his head! i asked why this table excited him so…and his response was – “think of all the drinks and snacks that would fit on that puppy!!!! i could have a whole buffet spread out there!! wow!” eater that i am….that had never really occurred to me. i was thinking papers/magazines/books…but it would indeed be room enough for a veritable feast. (raise your hand if you’re impressed with my vocabulary!) =D
so if you’re in the mood for a big ole honking snack….or just like a bit of room on your bedside table…or if you’d like a fabulous end table – or even a coffee table i am offering one of the most flexible pieces of furniture around!

full bed

endtable

this is a solid wood full size bed – cream and distressed – by dixie furniture. the end table that matches it is also posted here. a bed is a wonderful thing! not that i use mine that much – what with my insomnia issues and all….but they are still pretty amazing places to hang out! =D i find that they are also fabulous places to heal….which brings me to a discussion my husband and i had last week. we went to QT – one of our favorite hangouts – are we classy or what??? and tom got a soda – while i mixed things up a bit and instead of my regular diet coke…decided to live on the wild side and get a frozen coke. after about 4 sips – large sips if we’re sharing everything – i grabbed my neck and exclaimed that i had “throapy”! after almost choking due to laughing so hard, my man asked what the heck “throapy” was. i explained that it was like a brain freeze only in your throat. tom swears that there is absolutely no such thing! saysthat has never happened to him. says i am making it up. okay….so maybe i made up the word throapy….but not the condition!!! haven’t YOU ever had your throat hurt because you drank something cold too fast? haven’t YOU had throapy?? well. .. if you HAVE had throapy….this is a wonderful place to lay down and relax till it passes. even if you hadn’t had throapy, this is a beautiful bed!
full size bed – headboard/footboard/siderails – $127

chinacabinet

tom HATES it when i say “whatever”! if we were to ever argue – which i find hard to even imagine – i would THINK that one of the most irritating things i could do would be to say “whatever”. i am GUESSING that it would make him really mad if he said something to me and i responded with “whatever”.

so i finish this piece – which incidentally took GOBS of work!!! it is now a lovely cream and distressed china cabinet…backed with black brown and cream fabric (should look good no matter what your color scheme is!). and i start fixing it up to take a picture….and tom comes in. “whatcha doin’?” he says. now, i have done this very thing about a thousand times now….fix something so i can take a photo….but i resist the urge to say “making baked alaska” or “attempting to cross the Nile” and instead say “staging this china cabinet so i can take a photo of it for my website”. at this point tom informs me that if i post a china cabinet it will be false advertising, as i have no china! i again resist my first thought which is to say “and whose fault is that?????” – remember the last china cabinet post? that should make sense to you if you read that….if not….um…how come????) instead, i reply “what am i supposed to do then DEAR??” and he says….”tell the truth. we eat on paper plates every night. so in OUR home….this is a chinette cabinet!” whoooooo – isn’t he insanely funny?

so from the title were you expecting a photo of something scary?
i have to say that i was – once again – very impressed with my honey!!! (he actually does quite a few impressive things….some i can share….some i can’t – haha) he decided one night after i had worked a 68 hour day (at least that’s what it felt like) that he really wanted to help. so as i flopped onto the bed to catch up on computer work…he started scouring craigslist for something wonderful. he found it! a solid wood true antique (back is even wood) piece with lots of personality!!! he found it…contacted the owner…bartered a wee bit so we could afford to rethunk it and drove a fur piece to pick it up the next morning! he even cleaned it, sanded it and primed it! so i could start the fun part of painting, distressing, choosing new hardware, and then sealing it. when my man gets involved life is ever so much better. only problem is he spoiled me. i told him it would be wonderful if he offered those services on a daily basis…and then he reminded me that he has a day job that kinda pays for the house and groceries….oh yeah….
tom’s piece is only $159 and dimensions are:

you know how you have a vision in your head of how something will look when you finish it? well….um…er….uh…this is NOTHING like what i envisioned! i have done a couple of dressers lately in black and white and like the contrast between the two colors…so i decided i would do a nightstand to match. i was excited when i discovered that the yucky metal ovals came off this piece so i could rework them. i envisioned a black and white little masterpiece – cool accents – real classy! well…what happened was Harold. i painted the piece white…painted the top black…and as soon as i put the black ovals back on i knew i had gone astray from my original plan. =D Harold (named by my 16 year old) appeared as soon as i attached the hardware. i laughed till i thought i would cry and still giggle when i pass him. haven’t decided if i’m laughing because he’s hilarious and unique….or because he’s such a far cry from my original vision. but he made me happy enough that i thought i’d offer him to you. he could be DARLING in a little boy’s room (and i seem to do quite a bit for girls!). if Harold makes you happy, come pick him up. he’d love to have a permanent home!

rocker

rocker 2

this rocker makes me think of a friend i have from canada. see those stunningly distressed maple leaves? (are those even maple leaves? that’s what i’m calling them!) well those maple leaves make me think of canada…and some really yummy cookies you can buy at walmart….
remember that game where everyone tried to link everything on the planet to kevin bacon?? (the six degrees of kevin bacon? tell me i’m not the only one who remembers that game!)
well i can link everything on the planet to FOOD! examples you ask?
rocker – maple cookies
last end table i did – hershey kisses and cookies
my flat iron is the exact same shade of pink as cotton candy
hammocks look like a fishing net – so i think of seafood
my body wash has a citrus scent…oranges! and chocolate covered strawberries hee hee
of course none of this has anything to do with the beautiful rocker…. =D
kevin bacon was in footloose….footloose makes me think of footlong hotdogs…hotdogs make me think of bonfires….bonfires make me think of …..well crud! i still can’t connect to the rocker.
well – it’s gorgeous and you should buy it! $86

today is my birthday!! woo hoo! it also happens to be the one year mark of starting Rethunk Junk! yee haw! after a year, i’m still having a blast, excited, and enjoying every minute of it! i’ve decided that’s cause every piece i do is a wee bit different – so it never gets old. in honor of the one year mark, i decided to do something VERY different!!! a COUCH!!! after a year, my family has pretty much quit laughing when i drag things home to “transform”. um…till this one! i got some giggles and some eye rolls, and some phrases like “you’ve got to be kidding!”. nope. not kidding! and i had fun with this. i could throw up that i didn’t take a before photo. but here she is all finished! black and distressed, with newly covered cushions…my own personal one year party! =D i have now rethunk a couch!
(i think she would look really cute on a sun porch or covered deck – if mine were “weather proof” i’d probly keep her!)
she can come live with you for $287

long black

long black drawers

long black

seems like i have done a lot of the long dressers in cream….so i decided to do this one in black. there are three large drawers on each side and three drawers behind the cabinet door. this would be a great buffet or flat screen tv stand if you’re looking for those things! good thing i know how to rethunk stuff….
so i mentioned in an earlier post that my husband purchased a truck, right? well…when he buys a truck…he buys a TRUCK! i am now the proud owner of a ford f350 xlt pickup truck. and since i would never have known what that was till last friday, let me just tell you that it’s one big honkin’ truck! tom was proudly explaining that it had the runner-step-on-so-you-can-get-in-things on the side and i thought….”what a nice addition!” NOPE! those puppies are essential! i already look a bit silly hauling my rear end up into the seat – were it not for the runner-step-on-so-you-can-get-in-things there’s no way i would be able to do anything but wave to others as they drove off in my truck. so anyhoo…i took my first furniture foray in the truck on monday. found a fabulous dresser and had it loaded up. i’m feelin all cool and happy in my truck and decide i need some fuel before heading home. i turn the corner and head into the QT. few minutes later i am approached by a stranger who has a dresser drawer in about 3 pieces. i think to myself…”how does he know i fix things like that?? why did he know to bring it to QT? is he a stalker in disguise? i can never jump in my truck fast enough to get away!” and when he get’s to me he explains that as i went around the corner, this came flying out of my truck. now THERE’S a problem i never had in the van! i apologize profusely and he kindly suggests that i take all the drawers out till i get home. well dang it – that requires CLIMBING into the back of the truck. something i would rather try in private for the first time. hee hee with a little help i got things all safely tucked away and did indeed make it home with this fabulous dresser. i have decided i have some issues normal people just don’t have – wouldn’t you agree?
